Alberta Alkalay: I am proud that Bulgaria is the bearer of the moral capital to the rescue of its Jews

Alberta Alkalay is the descendant of the rescued Bulgarian Jews who receive a deportation order for the death camps in 1943. On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Holocaust TV + broadcast an interview with her.

Alberta painfully remembers all those stories of her relatives who have been humiliating for many years and who were considered to be a lower class in society. But she does not miss the gestures to the Jews every year. Because there are Jews, Armenians, Greeks and Turks living together in Burgas along with the local ones. Despite the prohibitions, Jews are even hired for work.

Alberta, who perceived herself as the living memory of her ancestors, realizes one of her dreams – to build a memorial in gratitude to Burgas and its popular figures for their contribution to the rescue of the Jews. For herself she says that she is the bearer of the ancestral memory of her ancestors.
