Two more weeks until the deadline for participation in the literary competition
Only two weeks remain until the deadline for submitting literary works for the 7th National Literary Youth Competition “Who Saves One Human Life, Saves a Whole Universe”, organized by Center for Jewish-Bulgarian Cooperation “Alef”. The competition is dedicated to brave Bulgarians who helped Jews during the brutal Holocaust and who are proclaimed as “Righteous among the Nations” by the The World Holocaust Remembrance Center – Yad Vashem. This also defines the theme of the literary competition this year: “I am one of them – the Bulgarian righteous among the nations.”
The composition of the jury which will rate the high-school and university student narratives is already clear. Radostina Nikolova – a senior expert in the Ministry of Education and Science, Rumen Leonidov – a journalist, poet and publisher of the website Fakel.bg and Asen Yordanov – journalist, director of the website Bivol.bg will have тхе serious task to choose the best authors.
Radostina Nikolova is а Main Expert at the Pre-School and School Education Content Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science. As a specialist in history and civilizations, Mrs. Nikolova has judged at several national student conferences, the national competition “Places and Memory”, “The National Awakens and I” and more.
The inclusion of an expert from the Ministry of Education and Science provides even stronger guarantee that a fully objective assessment of the youth literary works will be made in accordance with the best practices of Bulgarian education. The participation of the Ministry of Education and Science in the national competition is also expressed by providing an annual scholarship for the winner. This is a high recognition by the state for the value and quality of Alef’s competition which in itself is unprecedented for Bulgaria.
Center Alef has created a new section in its virtual library to help young writers. It places in the light of the spotlight the 20 Bulgarian “righteous among the nations” – part of 27 thousand people from 51 countries awarded with this honorary title. Who are they? People with different professions, education, interests… just like us – an ordinary people. But they did something extraordinary in an emergency – risking their own lives to save other lives. Alef makes it possible to get to know them as collecting in one place reliable and valuable information with the help of the State Agency of Archives. Their fates told through a combination of credibility and imagination is the challenge for the participants in the seventh competition.
It is almost two weeks until the deadline for submitting the narratives. High school and university students from all over Bulgaria still have the chance to join the competition and make their literary discoveries. The prizes are worth it, while the first prize for students is a one-year scholarship, the second is participation in an international congress for young leaders in Israel at the expense of the organizers, and the third prize is a monetary one.
The award ceremony where the 20 nominated authors will be invited will take place in Burgas in the beginning of May 2020.
The names of the nominees will be announced in early April and the final ranking will be announced at the awards ceremony.
