Solidarity and compassion after the anti-Semitic attack in Halle

Germany calms Jews’ worries after the attack in a holy day, writes https://www.republicworld.com

The Jewish people in Germany feel the horrors of the Holocaust again. The attack provoked new concerns among people about the growing right-wing extremism and uncertainty about police response.

“Above the rain-soaked flowers and small lanterns left by well-wishers, the bullet holes are clearly visible in the small wooden door of the Halle synagogue. This door was all that stood between the armed extremist and the worshipers inside the building gathered to pray on the holiest day of the Jewish year,” writes https://www.bbc.com

The horror and confusion that surrounded Halle on Wednesday was replaced by perplexity and painful questions.

“Unfortunately, we have to face the truth. The truth is that the level of threat caused by anti-Semitism, right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism in Germany is very high, “the German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer admitted, quoted by the media.

Today in Germany the grief is overwhelming. This country, which finds it difficult to overcome the shame of its past, faces its painful present today.

Hanover’s residents have given a vivid expression of solidarity and compassion after the brutal anti-Semitic incidents. So many people are raising their voices: NO MORE…

The pictures of the protest there that we publish are sent specifically to Center Alef by Anke Biedenkapp.
