VII NATIONAL LITERATURE YOUTH COMPETITION

“WHO SAVES ONE HUMAN LIFE SAVES A WHOLE UNIVERSE”

THEME: I AM ONE OF THEM – THE BULGARIAN RIGHTEOUS AMONG THE NATIONS

Dear young creators,

Twenty Bulgarians have been declared as “RIGHTEOUS AMONG THE NATIONS”. These compatriots of ours have been proclaimed heroes of the planet. Who are they? What have they done to deserve this title? Who awards them and when? What does this mean for Bulgaria and the world?

If you want to know, you’ll have to go back to the years of World War II. You will open one of the darkest pages of history – the Holocaust, but you will also highlight the examples of the greatest majesty- saving human life.

At the end of the war: 48,000 Bulgarian Jews were saved, 11,343 innocent Jews were exterminated, 20 Bulgarians were declared as Righteous Among The Nations. The title was awarded by YadVashem, The World Holocaust Remembrance Centerin Jerusalem, Israel.

The story of the Bulgarian Jews and their saviors has not been fully told yet. She’s waiting for you.

If you are a high-school student (from 8 to 12 grade) or a university student up to the age of 25 and you love to work with the speech, accept the challenge of publicizing the history of the Bulgarian “Righteous Righteous Among The Nations ” through a fictional story you have created.Choose one of the twenty righteous, make a research about his/her life, and recreate the story for which he/she received the highest gratitude and the “righteous” title.

The narratives should be no longer than 5 printed pages, A4 size, 12 points. The works should not have been published until now.

You can find information and bibliography about the Bulgarian Righteous in the virtual library on Alef’s website – www.alef-bg.org.

The best authors will be nominated and will participate in the award ceremony in Burgas in May 2020 at the expenses of the organizers. One of the authors will be announced as a winner of Alef’scompetition then.
