Hanukka is! For eight days in all synagogues and in every Jewish family in the world, the candles are lit in the ritual candlestick – the Hanukia. There is a main candle, called a shamasha, who occupies a central place and preserves the hanukias’ sanctuary from desecration. The other candles corresponding to the next day of the holiday are lit up with the shamasha. In celebration of the holiday in each Jewish home, the hanukia is placed on the window and the children are given gifts and treats.
Happy Hanukkah!
Let the life and houses be filled with light!
