Center for Jewish-Bulgarian Cooperation “Alef” and Burgas Writers Community Association will mark the International Day in Remembrance of the Holocaust Victims with a joined event.
“The memory as a salvation” is the motto of literary reading, in which poets of Burgas will present their poetic messages about the universal values, the meaning of communication between people, the necessity of the lessons of the past, hope, love … All those things that unite us in the quest for a different world in which hate is eradicated.
The documentary film “To Remember” will be the continuation of the poetic evening, it revives the story of the salvation of the Burgas Jews and presents Burgas as a city of tolerance and solidarity.
The poetic evening will take place on January 28, Thursday, at 18:00 in the House of Writers – Burgas.
* On November 1, 2005, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a 60/7 ruling stating that 27 January will be annually marked as an International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The date was chosen because on that day in 1945 the largest Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was released in Auschwitz (Poland).
After the adoption of this resolution, the Secretary-General of the United Nations called this special date “an important reminder of the lessons of the Holocaust – this unprecedented manifestation of evil that should not just be left in the past and become oblivious.”
The monster implications of the Second World War served as a boost to the establishment of the United Nations. The most important part of the Organization’s mandate, enshrined in its Statute, is the protection of the rights of all people without race, sex, language or religion distinction.
