The Jewish-Bulgarian Cooperation Center “Alef” created the largest virtual bibliographic collection for the great Israeli statesman, politician and peacemaker Shimon Peres. At a time when the world rediscovers human values in order to counter the aggression, the life, aspirations and actions of Shimon Peres can be an example of wisdom and behaviour that create paths between the past and the future. That is why “Alef” looked for many publications and evidences for important appearances and views of the great politician and gather them in one place.
Shimon Peres is one of the founders of the State of Israel and is a Nobel Peace Prize winner. The bibliographic collection at http://alef-bg.org contains more than 20 materials, which give a complete picture of his personality. Here are collected his discussions, speeches and interviews, as well as memories of celebrities who knew him. In addition to Perez’s detailed biography, his historical international appearances are published in the library. The audience can get acquainted with his speech to the German Bundestag, his speech to the European Parliament, and when he received Nobel Peace Prize, his last interview, and others. His remarkable speech during the Yeltsin European strategy in Kiev has a special place in the library. It is quoted worldwide as a formula for achieving peace and understanding. Interviews, that he has given to the media from various countries, including Bulgaria, Russia, Kazakhstan, the USA and others are published as well. Some of them are accompanied by video or audio recordings that keep the living voice, the image of the charismatic humanist and statesman. The interview in the French newspaper Figaro is impressive- there he outlines a peculiar picture of the future in the context of the globalized world. Particularly valuable are the quotations of his speeches, which remain not only as wise phrases of immense importance, but also as formulations from one epoch to another. Some of the publications are in English.
“Alef” continues its work on enriching the virtual library. The bibliographic collection for the Israeli statesman is particularly valuable for Bulgaria. Since the publication of Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar’s book for Shimon Peres in 2009, no other literature has been published in Bulgarian. This book, as well as the book “Five conversations with … Shimon Peres” by Robert Litel, translated from French, can be found difficult, mostly in reading rooms of libraries.
“Alef” created the unique and exceptional Bulgarian-Jewish virtual library in 2014. It already contains a solid bibliographic mass, representing the inseparable connection between Bulgarians and Jews, their quest for unity in the name of humanism and the common homeland. Now the virtual library has added the section for Shimon Peres.
